He Jingwei, Professional Shanghai I joined Bosch in Beijing in June 2000 and my first position was "Senior IT specialist". The IT infrastructure in Bosch is bigger than the companies I worked before. I could learn more new things. And also because I was assigned to the task to support ERP system for the user department, I had more opportunity to talk with user, understand their needs and provide solution. This kind of consultation work made me feel not bad.
After 2 years working in IT area, I felt a bit boring because there were no so much new things to learn anymore. I started to think maybe I could go back school to study something else. One day when I was reading some reference books regarding how to enter into graduate school, the PER manager happened passed by and asked some personal questions. But I didn't expect during the PRED, he asked "Are you willing to go to Germany to study MBA?" This was the first time I know that in Bosch there is such good opportunity for development.
After short preparation I started my study in Germany. It was a big challenge because the study topics are very new to me. I was forced to change the mindset of thinking from pure technical things to commercial area e.g. marketing, financing and other topics. After one year study, I found my view is wider than before and the communication sill was improved dramatically.
I came back to Bosch China in 2003 and very luckily got the challenge position to be the assistant to President. I believe it was a part of training program for me because I could understand the Bosch business at very high level. At same time, of cause, I could have chance to learn how top management behaves in daily business. The assistant job also taught me how to work under pressure and how to adjust your mood accordingly.
I was nominated as DSO from June 2005. In order to achieve the business goal, Bosch China needs to improve awareness in information security. However information security is not "add-on" topic but should be integrated into daily business. Because of my IT background and MBA knowledge, I found I could find some good access points to help our company on information security and bring added value for the business. One the other hand, because I have opportunity to visit each business unit during the audit and training, I could know deeper of the business, which definitely is benefit to my DSO job.
I like to work in Bosch because company is big enough and could provide many training programs for the employees. And sometimes it will give you challenge. Of cause, the pre-condition to get these opportunities is you should be recognized by the organization through your effort and better use your performance to show your potential. I am not sure where the next challenge is but I am ready for that.
